  1. ³US Pro Wrestling²

  4. The  sport  of Pro Wrestling has become
  5. very  popular  in  recent years.  There
  6. are  two main federations - the WWF and
  7. the  WCW (formerly NWA).  Both of these
  8. federations  have  their pros and cons.
  9. The  WWF  has loads of shitty gimmicks,
  10. for  example  they give their wrestlers
  11. crappy  names and personas such as 'The
  12. Undertaker'  and  'I. R.  S.' (initials
  13. for  the  American Tax Dept.).  Most of
  14. these  wrestlers  have moves which have
  15. something  to  do  with their gimmick -
  16. I. R.   S.   has  'The  Writeoff'  and
  17. Undertaker  has  'The Tombstone'.  Also
  18. the   WWF  often  stages  plainly  fake
  19. publicity  stunts  such as the Ultimate
  20. Warrior getting bitten by a snake which
  21. was  so obviously plastic.  They really
  22. hype up these events.

  24. Many  WWF  wrestlers used to wrestle in
  25. the  WCW.   For example, the Undertaker
  26. was  Mean  Mark  Callous in the WCW and
  27. Sid  Justice  who  everyone  reckons is
  28. soooo good was known as Sid Vicious and
  29. was  beaten  in 2 minutes 30 seconds by
  30. the 7' 7" El Gigante.  They come to the
  31. WWF  for  the better money it offers as
  32. more   people  (thick  American  brats)
  33. watch WWF than WCW.

  35. The  World  Champion of the WWF is Hulk
  36. Hogan.   The  Intercontinental champion
  37. is Bret Hart and the tag team champions
  38. are  the  'The  Legion  Of  Doom'.  For
  39. those of you who do not know what a tag
  40. team  is  it is two wrestlers wrestling
  41. as   a   team   against   another   two
  42. wrestlers.

  44. In  the  WCW,  the  World  Champ is Ric
  45. Flair,  the  US  Champ is Lex Luger and
  46. the Tag champs are the Steiner Brothers
  47. (probably  the  best  tag  team  in the
  48. world).   WCW's  wrestling  superiority
  49. over  the  WWF is best indicated by the
  50. way  in  which  the Steiners humiliated
  51. the  former  WWF  champs The Nasty Boys
  52. when they were in the WCW.

  54. There   are   basically  two  types  of
  55. wrestlers  -  ones who rely on strength
  56. and  ones  who rely on skill and speed.
  57. Examples   of   strength   (or   power)
  58. wrestlers  are  Lex  Luger, Hulk Hogan,
  59. Sid  Justice/Vicious, Ultimate Warrior,
  60. Earthquake  and  The Warlord.  Examples
  61. of skill/speed wrestlers are Ricky 'The
  62. Dragon' Steamboat, Ric Flair, Bret 'The
  63. Hitman'  Hart,  Mr.  Perfect, Sting and
  64. The Rockers tag team.  You do of course
  65. get mixtures of skill and power such as
  66. the  Steiners,  Lex  Luger and Davy Boy
  67. Smith (The British Bulldog).

  69. There   are   however,   problems  with
  70. wrestling on TV.  It is usually only on
  71. Satelite TV such as BSkyB and generally
  72. all you see is WWF.  WCW is only on for
  73. an  hour  or  two  a  week.   Also, WWF
  74. matches    are    usually   all   good,
  75. established wrestlers against beginners
  76. or    preliminaries    as    they   are
  77. known. These  matches  tend to be short
  78. and boring with the prelims getting the
  79. shit  kicked  out of them. An exception
  80. to this is the Supercards, like the cup
  81. finals in Football.  These take place 3
  82. or  4  times a year and have names such
  83. as  Wrestlemania,  Royal  Rumble, Great
  84. American  Bash and Summerslam.  This is
  85. where top class matches are to be seen.

  87. Wrestling  fans  are  crazy.  They wear
  88. T-shirts with their favourite wrestlers
  89. on  them,  have  wrestling  bed covers,
  90. hats,  lunch  boxes,  pants  (shock the
  91. skids  into  submission),  toliet  roll
  92. (wipe  your  arse  on  your  most hated
  93. wrestler)  and  anything  else  that'll
  94. sell.   Part  of  the  reason they love
  95. their  sport so much is that wrestling,
  96. like no other sport, has Goodies (yay!)
  97. and Baddies (boo!).  Sometimes a baddie
  98. becomes a goodie (yay!) but sometimes a
  99. goodie becomes a baddie (b..  - oh fuck
  100. it).   These  goodies are known as 'fan
  101. favourites'  (because  that's what they
  102. are)  whilst  the  baddies are known as
  103. 'rulebreakers'   (because  that's  what
  104. they do).  Sometimes a rulebreaker will
  105. attack  a  fan  favourite when he's not
  106. expecting  it  and  a  feud will start.
  107. The  wrestlers  will  have  match after
  108. match  until  a  winner  emerges.   The
  109. loser crawls into a corner and cries.

  111. Some  of  you may have heard that there
  112. is  going to be a wrestling game on the
  113. Amiga  by  Ocean.   A conversion of WWF
  114. Wrestling  in  the arcades.  Well, this
  115. is  a  pretty  shit wrestling game.  If
  116. you  want  to play a good one check out
  117. Taito's World Wrestling in the arcades,
  118. it's bloody excellent (and will someone
  119. please  convert it???).  Wrestlefest is
  120. a  new  wrestling  arcade  game  that I
  121. haven't yet played but it sounds pretty
  122. cool.
